The NFL finally has its version of the “LeBron James vs. Michael Jordan” debate. After Patrick Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs to their fourth Super Bowl appearance in six seasons on Sunday, it’s spurred up conversation about perhaps when not if he’ll catch the legendary Tom Brady as the greatest NFL player ever. Be very prepared to hear this storyline constantly in the lead-up to Super Bowl 58.
In a new TikTok on Brady’s profile, the legendary quarterback showed he’s well aware of all these comparisons between himself and Mahomes. It features one of Brady’s friends calling an undisclosed area with goats the “Mahomes exhibit” — a reference to the famous sports acronym “Greatest Of All Time.”
All Brady could understandably do was laugh in reaction:
@tombrady With friends like this who needs enemies 😂🙄🇦🇺
In terms of postseason accolades, Mahomes has a long way to go before he actually catches Brady. He’s behind Brady in both Super Bowl wins (seven to two) and Super Bowl berths (10 to four). But Mahomes doesn’t turn 29 until mid-September. At the pace he’s on, it wouldn’t be a stretch to see the Chiefs’ superstar eventually chase down Brady or at least get close to it. Mahomes has literally made qualifying for the Super Bowl look just as routine as Brady once did.
And if Mahomes even gets within reach of Brady’s accomplishments, he will almost certainly have a more reasonable place in this “GOAT” conversation. Brady knows that all too well.
