ABU DHABI – [autotag]Jose Aldo[/autotag]’s quest to become a rare UFC two-division champion took a crucial step Friday.
Aldo (28-6 MMA, 10-5 UFC) made weight for his vacant bantamweight title fight against [autotag]Petr Yan[/autotag] (14-1 MMA, 6-0 UFC). He needed to strip down, but was 135 pounds on the nose. Yan was 135, as well, earlier in the two-hour weigh-in window.
Aldo was a longtime UFC featherweight champion, but made the drop to bantamweight in 2019. Although he lost his divisional debut to Marlon Moraes, he still is getting a title shot against Yan after Henry Cejudo retired and vacated the bantamweight belt.

The fighters meet in the first of three title fights on the UFC 251 main card Saturday at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on UFC Fight Pass/ESPN+.
