Video: Is Makhachev-Volkanovski one of the best matchups in UFC history?

Ahead of this week’s headliner, there was a complaint from within the UFC 284 main event that it hadn’t been marketed well enough.

Ahead of this week’s headliner, there was a complaint from within the UFC 284 main event that it hadn’t been marketed well enough.

Lightweight champion [autotag]Islam Makhachev[/autotag] (23-1 MMA, 12-1 UFC) a week ago said his title defense against featherweight champ [autotag]Alexander Volkanovski[/autotag] (25-1 MMA, 12-0 UFC), who will go after a second title, has been under-promoted.

UFC president Dana White disputed that after UFC Fight Night 218 this past Saturday, but also couldn’t remember Makhachev’s name – and he’s headlining the pay-per-view in Perth, Australia. (For what it’s worth, Volkanovski doesn’t think the fight lacked marketing power, either.)

But given the stakes – the current pound-for-pound best fighter in the world going after a second concurrent title in the weight class many consider to be the deepest in the world – it sure seems like things could be a little more hyped.

But how far do we want to take that hype for UFC 284, particularly the main event? That’s the question we asked this week’s “Spinning Back Clique” panel of Brian “Goze” Garcia, Nolan King and Danny Segura. They broke it down with host “Gorgeous” George Garcia.

Check out their discussion in the video above, and don’t miss this week’s full episode below.
