LaMelo Ball’s NBA career only just began, but the youngest Ball brother has already shown a few flashes of greatness in limited minutes, including a 22-point, 8-rebound performance in a win over the Mavericks.
The Hornets have great expectations for the No. 3 overall pick, but what’s the ceiling for LaMelo? USA TODAY Sports’ Mike Scotto spoke to NBA executives and scouts about Ball’s potential – and not everyone is pegging Ball to be a star in the league.
Ball’s style was compared to three players – Ricky Rubio, Shaun Livingston and Jason Williams.
Scotto: “I asked them, those scouts and executives, ‘do you think that LaMelo Ball can be an All-Star in the league?’ And the reviews were mixed from those executives. One executive told me he believed that [LaMelo] can be ‘a fringe All-Star player, and a high level starter.’ Another one told me that, quite frankly, he thinks [LaMelo] is overrated and he thought that his brother Lonzo was more competitive than him.”
