Victoria Monet (rightfully!) walks away with 3 Grammys after puzzling 2023 MTV VMAs snub

MTV needs to be drafting a Victoria Monet apology. This is embarrassing for them.

Victoria Monet is winning at life, and at the 2024 Grammys she was rewarded for her incredible talent. Monet went home with three awards, including Best New Artist.

In case you were unaware, Victoria Monet makes music that floats. I’m talking about the 1960s and 1970s type of R&B music (with 1990s Aaliyah flare) that is so smooth you can’t help but groove to it and sing along at obnoxiously loud levels.

When Monet released On My Mama in June of 2023, ahead of her JAGUAR II album, the song quickly skyrocketed to the top of the charts. Victoria’s velvety voice, a spectacular sample of I Look Good by rapper Chalie Boy and a 2000s fashion-inspired video were a perfect combination.

On My Mama‘s success had fans clamoring for Monet to perform at the 2023 MTV VMA’s. But, according to Victoria, she was told that it was too soon.

Yet, MTV likely didn’t know that Victoria had been manifesting her come-up since she moved to Los Angeles in 2009 and her Grammy wins since 2013. Monet’s thoughts came to life on Sunday as she walked away with Best R&B Album, Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical) and Best New Artist.

So, though her flowers might have been delayed, they were not denied. In other words, she bloomed right where she was planted after the rain.
