The 2023-24 season was a rough one for the San Antonio Spurs, as they finished 14th in the Western Conference and had one of the worst records in franchise history. But it wasn’t all bad, as rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama absolutely took over the league, proving to be one of the best players in the NBA.
With his dominant season in the books, Wembanyama was a shoo-in for the Rookie of the Year award, which he won. Not only did Wembanyama win it, but he also became the first-ever unanimous winner of the honor, beating out the likes of Chet Holmgren and Brandon Miller.
After the award was announced, Wembanyama reacted to becoming the first-ever unanimous winner during a segment on ESPN.
Wembanyama led the league in blocks as a rookie and finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting. He and the Spurs have a very bright future ahead of them.
