The San Antonio Spurs haven’t found much success this season when it comes to the win column. However, while they may not be winning as much as they want to, they’ve found themselves in plenty of close games. The most notable of the bunch was the Spurs’ recent loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Victor Wembanyama and Giannis Antetokounmpo battled it out all night long, with the Spurs rookie even blocking The Greek Freak in the final moments of the game to keep his team in it. San Antonio lost the game, but afterward, Wembanyama made it clear that every game he’s played since then would be a statement.
After the Spurs’ second-straight win on Friday night, a 135-99 victory over the Charlotte Hornets, Wembannyama doubled down, telling Hector Ledesma of ClutchPoints that he “did mean it literally.”
“Of course. I’ve been trying to be locked in on every play,” Wembanyama said. “Every time I step on the court, I’ve got my goals in mind. Every time I dunk a ball, I’ve got my goals in mind. I’ve just got that energy that inside of me that’s going to push me to win,” the top overall pick in last summer’s draft said.
Their win over Charlotte marked their second two-game win streak of the season and the first since their back-to-back wins over the Phoenix Suns on October 31 and November 2.
Wembanyama may not be leading the Spurs to many victories this season, but the talent level is clear, and San Antonio fans should be excited about what he and the team can do moving forward into the future.
