The San Antonio Spurs welcomed the New York Knicks to the Frost Bank Center on Friday night, and they ended the evening with their third victory in a row. Jalen Brunson dropped 61 points, but the Spurs were too much for the Knicks to handle in overtime, as Victor Wembanyama led them to a win.
While Brunson’s 61 points were extremely impressive, Wembanyama also had a historical night of his own. He finished the game with 40 points, 20 rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and one block while shooting 13-of-22 from the floor and 4-of-9 from beyond the three-point arc. He became the first rookie since Shaquille O’Neal to put up a 40-20 game.
After the contest, he spoke about the historical significance of his game and his season. (H/t ESPN)
“I’ve never seen so much greatness before,” Wembanyama said. “The season has been going on for just some months. I’ve just witnessed so much greatness and I want to be a part of it. I always wanted to, but more and more seeing that I’m already able to compete with those guys. I’m not near, but I’m on the right path. I know it and I’m going to get there and soon.”
Wembanyama has been amazing this season, and he’s only focused on getting better from here on out.
