When it comes to playing in the NBA, perhaps the rules of the league should have a bit of leeway when it comes to the intent of the player involved when some rules are broken. But such a footing would be highly subjective, and leave the rules open to interpretation in ways that would make a mess of things in a hurry.
So for that reason, San Antonio Spurs superstar rookie forward Victor Wembanyama was recently fined $25,000 for throwing the ball into the stands in a moment of ebullience. Even after admitting it wasn’t his intent to be a cretin — in fact quite the opposite.
“I know players have gotten fined for throwing the ball in the stands before, but they did it with bad intent,” said Wemby via one of his many social media fan accounts.

“I was just doing it to make someone’s day,” he added.
Alas, the Frenchman’s admission of his noble intent still flies in the face of the rule preventing such behavior.
But we figure he won’t have too much trouble affording the penalty with the sort of future (and earnings) he has in front of him.
