A key welterweight matchup is in the works for an upcoming UFC Fight Night event.
On Aug. 6, [autotag]Vicente Luque[/autotag] will face [autotag]Geoff Neal[/autotag] in a bout set for three rounds. A source with knowledge of the matchup confirmed the booking following an initial report from ESPN. The event, expected to be headlined by a light heavyweight matchup between Thiago Santos and Jamahal Hill does not yet have a confirmed venue or location.
Luque (21-8-1 MMA, 14-4 UFC), 30, will look to rebound from a main event setback against Belal Muhammad at UFC on ESPN 34. Prior to the unanimous decision loss, Luque ripped through the division, rattling off four-straight stoppage victories. Niko Price, Randy Brown, Tyron Woodley, and Michael Chiesa all received losses on their record by the hands and submission skills of Luque.
On the other side, Neal (14-4 MMA, 6-2 UFC), will aim to keep the momentum going following a split decision win over Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC 269 in December. The 31-year-old Dana White’s Contender Series veteran won five straight after his entry into the promotion, including wins over Belal Muhammad, Niko Price, and Mike Perry.
With the addition, the Aug. 6 lineup includes:
- Thiago Santos vs. Jamahal Hill
- Vicente Luque vs. Geoff Neal
- Miranda Granger vs. Cory McKenna
- Stephanie Egger vs. Mayra Bueno Silva
