Vic Fangio’s 2-week stint as the Eagles’ secret weapon might earn him his first Super Bowl ring

Vic Fangio might secretly coach his way into a Super Bowl ring with the Eagles

The Eagles have done a lot of unconventional things to get where they are in Super Bowl 57 against the Chiefs.

They completely revolutionized the quarterback sneak, put together an elite defense and allowed Jalen Hurts to overhaul their offense after everyone doubted them. Philadelphia pushed as many boundaries as they could to get here.

But just because the Eagles made it there doesn’t mean they’re done.

Philadelphia found themselves a secret weapon in their search to find a way to stop Patrick Mahomes. The secret is Vic Fangio — someone all the NFL nerds out there should be familiar with.

For those who don’t know, Fangio was once a former head coach for the Broncos from 2019 through 2021. He certainly had his low moments in Denver, but he’s still well-respected in the NFL.

Respected enough, apparently, for the Eagles to give Vangio a 2-week contract so he could help their coaching staff gameplan against Patrick Mahomes, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reports.

“Fangio has relationships all over the Eagles’ staff — not just with the defensive staff — and those helped set up this arrangement. It’s hard to imagine a better resource than the grizzled veteran who has seen it all.

There had been some talk of Fangio working as a consultant with Philly this season following his tenure as Broncos head coach from 2019-2021, but he opted to travel and take time away, instead.

When the regular season ended, Eagles coaches he’s close with reached out to him to essentially say, “Do you want to go on this ride with us?” Fangio did, and soon afterward, he signed his contract.”

Immediately after the game, Fangio will sign a new contract to be the new defensive coordinator with the Miami Dolphins.  And if the Eagles win the Super Bowl, Fangio will get a Super Bowl ring. That’s a pretty sweet deal if you ask me.

It’s worth noting that Fangio hasn’t actually beaten Mahomes before. The Broncos went 0-4 against the Chiefs during his stint.

But Mahomes does respect what Fangio does.

We’ll see how it works out for the Eagles.
