Vic Fangio comments on Broncos hiring Pat Shurmur

Here’s what Broncos coach Vic Fangio had to say about hiring Pat Shurmur to be the team’s new offensive coordinator.

After moving on from Rich Scangarello on Sunday, the Denver Broncos officially hired Pat Shurmur as their new offensive coordinator on Tuesday afternoon. Shurmur comes to Denver after having spent the last two years as the New York Giants’ head coach.

Shurmur will now serve under Broncos head coach Vic Fangio. Having an experienced coach running the offense will allow Fangio to focus on defense, which is his specialty.

“Pat is an established play-caller with significant experience leading an offense as both a coordinator and head coach,” Fangio said in a statement Tuesday. “Having coached against Pat for a number of years, he’s always impressed me. His track record of developing younger players is outstanding.

“Pat brings a collaborative approach to working with the staff as well as a flexibility to adjust the offense to our players and opponents. We’re excited to add someone of his caliber to our coaching staff.”

Shurmur has 32 years of coaching experience, including 21 years in the NFL. He has coached for teams that reached six conference championships and a Super Bowl. Players under Shurmur have reached a combined 23 Pro Bowls.

Shurmur will now get to work with offensive weapons including QB Drew Lock, TE Noah Fant, RB Phillip Lindsay and WR Courtland Sutton.
