VFLs to compete in The Basketball Tournament

Ballinteers to play in The Basketball Tournament.

The Ballinteers, a team comprised of former University of Tennessee men’s basketball players, will compete in The Basketball Tournament, a 64-team bracket format with a $1 million winner-take-all prize.

The team was organized by former Vol Bobby Maze. VFL Ron Slay will serve as head coach.

The Ballinteers are tabbed as a No. 9 seed in the tournament’s Columbus Regional, which will be contested at Ohio State’s Covelli Center July 23-27.

Ballinteers will open tournament play against the eighth-seeded Men of Mackey, a squad made up of former Purdue players.

Tipoff for the tournament opener is slated for July 23 at 7 p.m. EDT.

Players for the Ballinteers include Jordan Bowden, Wayne Chism, Duke Crews, John Fields, Chris Lofton, J.P. Prince, JaJuan Smith, Tyler Smith, Cameron Tatum and Lamonte Turner.

Tournament games will be televised on the ESPN family of networks with broadcast arrangements pending.
