CINCINNATI — A former University of Tennessee baseball player is doing his part to help those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nick Senzel, an outfielder for the Cincinnati Reds, recently donated $10,000 to one of the city’s non-profit organizations that cares for children of essential workers.
Senzel, a high school standout in one of Tennessee’s powerhouse programs, Farragut High School, gave the donation to The Children’s Home of Cincinnati earlier this week.
The home cares for children as it provides behavioral health and education for the city’s children with developmental disabilities. It cares for the city year-round.
It recently implemented a program which serves children of essential workers that are unable to stay home while schools and daycare centers are shut down due to the pandemic.
The new program had 12 children receiving care as of Wednesday, April 22.
Senzel was an All-Southeastern Conference standout during his days with the Volunteers and was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft.
He hit .258 and clubbed 12 home runs for the Reds during his rookie campaign in 2019.
