ORLANDO — In his team’s second game of the NBA restart in Central Florida, former University of Tennessee basketball player Grant Williams contributed to a victory.
Williams, a power forward for the Boston Celtics, scored two points and grabbed a rebound in the team’s 128-124 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers Sunday afternoon at Orlando’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Arena.
It was the Celtics’ first win since the season restarted on July 31. The league suspended the 2019-20 campaign in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Boston (44-22) lost its first game back when it fell to Milwaukee, the top team in the Eastern Conference on Friday.
The Celtics led by as many as 24 points in the second quarter and held a 67-48 advantage over the Trailblazers (30-38) at halftime.
Williams, a rookie for Boston, left Tennessee after his junior season and was the two-time Southeastern Conference Player of the Year following the 2018-19 season.
He was a first-round draft pick by the Celtics as was taken with the 22nd overall selection in the 2019 NBA draft.
