Vasilije Micic, the reigning EuroLeague and Final Four MVP whose NBA rights belong to the Oklahoma City Thunder, is staying overseas for at least another year.
Micic signed a three-year extension with Anadolu Efes of the Turkish League, according to Eurohoops. He has an opt-out clause for the final two seasons.
Micic averaged 16.7 points, 4.9 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game last season and was the only EuroLeague player to make 70-plus 3-pointers, 100-plus 2-pointers and 100-plus free throws.
He led the Efes to the championship, during which he averaged 25.5 points and 5.5 assists per game in the tournament.
Micic became the fifth player to win both EuroLeague MVP and Finals MVP, joining a group of players that includes Luka Doncic.
The 6-foot-6 guard, now 27 years old, was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2014. They traded his rights to the Thunder as part of the trade that netted OKC Al Horford and the draft rights to Theo Maledon.
His agent said on June 1 that the decision about coming to the NBA had not yet been made, and that everything had to be right with the timing.
At this point, it’s not. Micic will play at least one more season overseas. The Thunder will have to wait another year before they can try to coax him to the NBA.
