Vance Honeycutt named ACC Defensive Player of the Year

North Carolina baseball standout Vance Honeycutt has earned some Atlantic Coast Conference honors.

North Carolina outfielder Vance Honeycutt has added to his list of accolades for the Tar Heels.

After another strong season in Chapel Hill, Honeycutt earned some honors following the 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference campaign as he was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year on Monday. The award is voted on by the league’s coaches and was created in 2017. Honeycutt is the first UNC player to win the award.

In two seasons at North Carolina, Honeycutt has played 114 games in center field including 50 this year. He had 141 putouts this year and did earn spots on ESPN SportsCenter’s top plays a few different times.

In addition to the DPOTY award, Honeycutt was also named to the ACC Third Team and is one of four Diamond Heels to earn honors.  Honeycutt slashed .257/.418/.492 with 12 home runs, 43 RBI and 49 walks for the Tar Heels.

The Diamond Heels begin their ACC tournament defense on Tuesday when they face Georgia Tech as they look to build momentum going into the NCAA tournament.
