Vaccinated Nets player to have no restrictions on off-court activities

The NBA confirms that vaccinated players will have no restrictions for non-basketball activities.

After receiving news that Nets players won’t be allowed to play at Barclays Center if they are unvaccinated, more news surrounding the NBA’s rules for the upcoming season continues to break. The NBA is clearly pushing for players to be vaccinated across the league, and in an attempt to incentivize getting vaccinated, the league is introducing a new policy. Players that are vaccinated will have no restrictions on non-basketball activities, such as going to clubs or lounges.

Last season, players that were caught doing these things were punished. They either had to go through time consuming procedures to make sure they did not have COVID-19, or they were temporarily suspended from playing. Two particular cases that dealt with this problem had to do with Nets star Kevin Durant and Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James.

Durant was found to have had close contact with somebody with COVID and he was abruptly told to remove himself from a game that was already underway. This incident happened in February versus the Toronto Raptors only 19 minutes into the game. The 33-year-old even made a twitter post demonstrating how much this bothered him, saying “Free me.”

As for James, he was seen out with well known figures such as Drake and Michael B Jordan with no mask on. The issue was brought to commissioner Adam Silver’s attention, but received no punishment. Just the thought of this having the possibility of having consequences though is what makes getting vaccinated that much more important for players.
