University of Tennessee swimmer Mona McSharry was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week after helping the Lady Vols knock off No. 10 Kentucky.
McSharry, a native of Dublin, Ireland, helped Tennessee notch a 178.4-121.5 victory over the Wildcats at the Allan Jones Aquatics Center on Jan. 14.
Kentucky was previously undefeated.
McSharry won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke and helped UT’s 400 freestyle relay team capture that event. She also swam the anchor leg on Tennessee’s 200 medley relay team, which came in second.
In the 100 breaststrole, McSharry posted a time of 51.91 seconds and shattered the event record previously held by former UT great and Olympian Molly Harris.
McSharry posted a time of 2:12.27 in the 200 breaststroke.
She swam the second leg of the 400 freestyle relay, recording a split of 51.08 seconds.
