It looks like new Kentucky Wildcats basketball coach Mark Pope is going to have a busy weekend. First, Aidan Mahaney is set to visit Kentucky, and now Utah guard Deivon Smith is set to do the same.
Pope and Kentucky has had interest in Smith since he entered the transfer portal, so getting him in for a visit is a big step. The news was posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, by Travis Branham of 247sports.
Smith began his college career at Mississippi State, then transferred to Georgia Tech before winding up at Utah. Last season with the Utes, Smith had his best year, averaging over 13 points and 7 assists per game. He also shot 40% from three-point range.
Mark Pope appears to be very interested in adding a veteran guard to the roster. Smith would bring experience, but also a strong ability to both score and pass, which would make him a very valuable addition.
