Utah at UCLA: Three things to know
- The Utes have yet to kick off their season, as the opener against Arizona was called off due to COVID-19 positive tests and contact tracing. This game was moved back from Friday to Saturday, giving the Utes about 27 more hours to prepare, and Utah AD Mark Harlan said mid-week he is encouraged by the testing results and preparations ahead of this game.
- We have seen UCLA once this season, and they were in a 48-42 shootout loss at Colorado last weekend. The Bruins racked up 478 total yards, including 303 through the air, but they turned it over four times, too. The Bruins also were trampled for 525 total yards, and 264 yards on the ground.
- UCLA was dominated in the time of possession category last week, as they had the ball for just 20:29 to 39:31 for Colorado. That’s worrisome for the Bruins against Utah, who might have one of the best offensive lines in the conference. The Utes figure to try and establish the run early and often.

Utah at UCLA: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks
Prediction
Utah 34, UCLA 31
Money line (ML)
We haven’t seen UTAH (-162) yet, so there are some concerns about their ability to replace All-American QB Tyler Huntley, as well as RB Zack Moss, who is now plying his trade with the Buffalo Bills. However, we do know they have several studs back from a stout defense. And they have a dominant O-line, assuming everyone is cleared of COVID. And we have seen UCLA (+135), and their defense was awful in the opener. All of those things make Utah a strong play on the money line in what should be a close game.
Against the spread (ATS)
UCLA +3.5 (-110) has the offense to hang with anybody. QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson will be the most experienced signal-caller on the field, and DTR will be able to keep the Bruins in the game, even if they slip behind early. He tossed four touchdowns in the opener loss and is the real deal. Even if UCLA doesn’t win, it should go down to the end just like last week.
Over/Under (O/U)
OVER 59.5 (-115) is the best play on the board here, as UCLA’s defense did not react well against the Buffs. They were trampled for 4.5 yards per rush attempt and almost eight yards on every pass. Utah’s offense is a bit of a mystery, but if it’s anything like the past, it will be balanced with a strong rush attack and ability to house it on every touch.
