The U.S. women’s national team is finally set to begin the Emma Hayes era.
Hayes was named as Vlatko Andonovski’s successor in November, but finished out the season at Chelsea before taking over the team this week.
The USWNT head coach will take charge of her first match on Saturday when the U.S. faces South Korea in a friendly at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park outside Denver.

Hayes will have to hit the ground running, as she’ll have a tight turnaround before she has to name an 18-player roster for the Olympics in July.
Following Saturday’s game, the U.S. and Korea will meet again on Tuesday night in St. Paul, Minnesota. It will be just the second game in charge for Hayes, but her last chance to see the USWNT in action before deciding her Olympic squad.
The USWNT is unbeaten in 15 matches against South Korea, with 11 wins and four draws. Most recently, the U.S. beat Korea 6-0 in October 2021 in Carli Lloyd’s farewell match.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the match.
