USGA announces 13 exemptions into 121st U.S. Open at Torrey Pines

Thirteen new names were just added to the U.S. Open field.

Just hours removed from “Golf’s Longest Day” on which 54 players earned a spot in the field at next week’s U.S. Open via nine final qualification sites, the U.S. Golf Association announced a handful of exemptions for the year’s third major June 17-20 at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, Calif.

An additional 13 players – bringing the total number of exempt players to 89 – were added to the field based on the current Official World Golf Ranking and the three-event U.S. Open 2021 European Tour Qualifying Series, which ended June 7.

Bernd Wiesberger, Ian Poulter and Charley Hoffman each moved into the top 60 of the OWGR as of June 7 to earn their spots. The following 10 players were top 10 on the points list of the U.S. Open 2021 European Tour Qualifying Series (who weren’t otherwise exempt): Richard Bland, Guido Migliozzi, Marcus Armitage, Mikko Korhonen, Jordan Smith, Adrian Meronk, Edoardo Molinari, Dave Coupland, Thomas Detry and Matthew Southgate.

A final spot in the field is being held open for any player who wins multiple Tour events that award full points for the Tour Championship.
