USC’s Jonah Monheim evaluates offensive line’s progress and development

What Jonah Monheim said about the #USC O-line should make Trojan fans more optimistic about the offense — and the team — heading into the season.

Every USC fan wants to know more about how the offensive line is evolving. If this unit delivers the goods in front of Caleb Williams, the Trojans’ star quarterback should be able to get the ball to Jordan Addison, Mario Williams, Travis Dye, and loads of other talented skill players. The USC offense will be able to score 40 points nearly every week and overcome the defense’s limitations.

Jonah Monheim, who will start for the Trojans along the offensive front (only one battle remains: between Courtland Ford and Bobby Haskins at left tackle, with Ford being the favorite), assessed the progress of his position group on Tuesday, as reported by R.J. Abeytia of 247Sports:

I think the group’s doing well. I think if you look at day one of camp to now I think you see huge improvement. You go from spring ball to camp, you see huge improvements. So you can see the steps with the techniques that coach Henson’s trying to learn. And he always says, ‘You got to be as violent and as physical as you can within your technique. You can’t lose control.’ You can’t just go out there and think all physicality. You have to do it with the right technique. And it’s definitely a challenge. You’re going against D linemen that are improving everyday, they’re doing all their stuff too. It’s a challenge every day. You’ve got to come out, you’ve got to compete, you got to work on it, you got to lock in with the physicality within the technique.

We’ll have more observations from Monheim as the week continues.
