The USC Trojans are losing five-star recruits. First, quarterback Malachi Nelson entered the transfer portal in a story which broke on Sunday evening. Less than 20 hours later, news broke that five-star cornerback Domani Jackson is expected to enter the portal.
There’s a lot to unpack here. Jackson has dealt with injuries which limited his ability to get on the field. However, in 2023, he did not make significant forward steps in his overall evolution and development.
An obvious question: How much did Alex Grinch limit his development at USC? Anyone who believes Domani Jackson can still be an elite player would say that if Jackson gets quality coaching, he can live up to his potential.
An obvious follow-up question: How much did the departure of Donte Williams have to do with Jackson’s decision to enter the transfer portal? It’s not a secret that Williams built very strong relationships with players he recruited. Williams’ departure was announced on Saturday. Was Domani Jackson waiting to see what would happen with Donte Williams? Is that what was happening here?
While we wrestle with these questions, we can plainly point out that D’Anton Lynn and Lincoln Riley were unable to retain Domani Jackson. People will fiercely debate how problematic this is for USC. It certainly raises a lot of questions.
The current expectation is that USC starting cornerback and former five-star recruit Domani Jackson is going to enter the transfer portal, sources tell @247sports.
