USC’s defense has been stellar; should the Buffs contact Trojans DC Alex Grinch?

Our @Jack_Carlough discussed USC’s defensive coordinator and a few other potential head coach candidates on @MattZemek’s GET OFF MY PYLON podcast

One of the first groups of people who are looked at for a head football coaching job is the nation’s top coordinators. These individuals have proved that they can successfully lead units while creating sound game plans — two needed abilities for a head coach.

Through about the midway point of 2022, USC defensive coordinator Alex Grinch has been among the best at his job. The Trojans’ defense has allowed under 20 points per game and is leading the nation in both sacks and turnover differential. Our friends at Trojans Wire highlighted those stats and a few others in making Grinch’s case to win the Broyles Award, given annually to the country’s best assistant coach.

With an increasingly strong resume, it only makes sense that Colorado should consider Grinch for its vacant head job. However, Grinch doesn’t check the box of having head coaching experience, something that athletic director Rick George should heavily consider.

I talked about Grinch and a few other Buffs head coach candidates on Matt Zemek’s GET OFF MY PYLON podcast, which can be listened to here.
