What makes a USC fan feel great? We could provide lots of good, valid answers, but at the top of the list would be the following: 1) Winning national championships. 2) Beating UCLA. 3) Being excellent at a sport which really matters to Southern Californians.
Football matters in Los Angeles. So does beach volleyball, part of a way of life for many residents of the city and the larger Southern California region.
On Sunday in Gulf Shores, Ala., USC women’s beach volleyball checked off all three of those primary boxes. The Trojans’ beach volleyball team won a national title. The Trojans beat UCLA. They claimed ultimate supremacy in their sport.
USC beat UCLA, 3-2, securing the championship when Audrey and Nicole Nourse defeated UCLA’s pair of Haley Hallgren and Rileigh Powers. The Nourses won their contentious match by a score of 21-18, 19-21, 15-11.
This is USC’s third consecutive national championship in women’s beach volleyball. It’s the Trojans’ fifth NCAA national championship in the past seven NCAA Tournaments. This is a true dynasty, and the Trojans know it.
Congratulations to the USC women’s beach volleyball team on a special and extraordinary achievement (and for beating the Bruins to do it).
