USC didn’t get the superstar transfer portal haul of LSU and Kim Mulkey, but it still did really well. Brandon Clay of 247Sports evaluated the top women’s basketball transfer portal classes in the country for the 2023 offseason.
USC did quite well, placing in the top 15 on Clay’s list. USC head coach Lindsay Gottlieb pulled in Kayla Padilla of Pennsylvania (the No. 29-rated transfer) and Kaitlyn Davis of Columbia (No. 33).
Having a transfer portal class not ranked in the top 10 might prevent USC from reaching the Women’s Final Four this upcoming season. LSU, Iowa, and other national powerhouses are going to be more loaded. However, for a USC team which did well to simply make the NCAA Tournament this past season, a top-15 portal class is a big deal. This portal group, combined with the arrival of Juju Watkins and the presence of Rayah Marshall as a returning frontcourt star, gives USC a legitimate chance of making the Sweet 16 and going deep in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
