The USC Trojans women’s basketball team stunned No. 2 Stanford on Sunday to give them a signature win and another impressive mark on Lindsay Gottlieb’s resume.
In just a couple of years, Gottlieb has worked wonders in Southern California.
In her first season in 2021-2022, the Women of Troy went just 12-16 and 5-12 in Pac-12 play. However, this year they are already at 13 wins and just defeated a potential Final Four team.
One of the more interesting notes of the game came from Destiny Littleton, who was USC’s leading scorer on Sunday against Stanford. Down the stretch, Gottlieb’s attitude and demeanor clearly rubbed off on the team. Littleton made a very firm and clear point after teammate Rayah Marhsall exhibited a lack of patience and didn’t operate within the team’s game plan.
The Trojans walked off the court with a 55-46 victory, but the point was made: Focus on making winning plays and don’t stray from the formula that works. USC needed to shorten the game and give Stanford fewer possessions. Any slight deviation could have been costly. Discipline is necessary for success, and Littleton — an extension of Gottlieb on the floor — drove the point home below:

USC now moves to 13-4 overall and 3-3 in the Pac-12. The Trojans have time off until Friday when they face Washington State and Washington in the span of three days before facing No. 10 Utah on the road on January 27.
