USC women’s basketball makes history, does something not seen in 29 years

USC made the top 10 of the Associated Press Poll for the first time since 1994.

The USC Trojan women’s basketball program just keeps notching milestones. USC was placed at No. 10 in the new women’s basketball Associated Press Poll. Per USC Athletics, it marks the first time since 1994 that USC women’s hoops has been ranked in the AP Top 10.

It’s another sign of growth and achievement for Lindsay Gottlieb’s program. It’s the product of last week’s victory over Ohio State in Las Vegas. JuJu Watkins and Rayah Marshall are the stars who get most of the attention — and rightly so — but USC’s role players have had a hand in this upward surge for the Women of Troy. McKenzie Forbes and Kaitlyn Davis made important plays down the stretch for USC in that win over Ohio State. Gottlieb and lead assistant Beth Burns are shaping the roster to not only fit the stars, but the other pieces of the puzzle, into a larger whole. That full group is working well together.

USC, at No. 10, is one of five Pac-12 teams in the AP poll. Utah, UCLA, Colorado, and Stanford are also in the top 10. The Pac-12 is going to have one of the best conference races in women’s college basketball this season.

USC is in the top 10 of both the AP poll and the USA TODAY Sports women’s college basketball poll. USC was No. 10 in the USA TODAY poll, released Tuesday morning.
