The USC women’s basketball team keeps winning and keeps climbing. The Trojans moved to 7-0 this season with an 89-58 win over the San Diego Toreros on Sunday afternoon in the Galen Center. The Trojans led by 20 at halftime and by 25 after three quarters, a stress-free game which enabled 11 different USC players to play.
Lindsay Gottlieb did not have to overextend her roster. She got her bench a lot of work. JuJu Watkins scored 30 points yet again this season. She added 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Rayah Marshall scored 20 points, pulled down 12 boards, and blocked four shots.
The Trojans were able to easily win this game without injured forward Kaitlyn Davis, who has missed multiple games in recent weeks. USC’s schedule is not especially busy in the middle of December due to exams, so the Trojans are hopeful Davis will be ready for the start of Pac-12 play on December 30 versus UCLA.
Speaking of UCLA, the Bruins beat Arkansas on Sunday and will remain No. 2 in the country. Meanwhile, No. 3 Stanford lost to Gonzaga, meaning that USC — a consensus top-eight team in both national polls — should move upward in the national rankings. That USC-UCLA game on December 30 could be a top-five matchup by the time it arrives.
USC women’s basketball continues to look the part of an elite team. The Trojans’ next game is Sunday, December 10 in the Galen Center versus UC Riverside at 3:30 p.m. local time in Los Angeles.
