USC target profile: Zabien Brown

Zabien Brown’s key strength: his instincts. Read more from @DonJamesSports before Sunday’s announcement.

Mater Dei defensive back Zabien Brown, from Santa Ana, Calif., has locked in his commitment date. Brown, who cut his list to Alabama, Ohio State and USC last month, is set to make his decision this Sunday, July 9.

“I’m ready,” Brown said. “I feel good about it and this weekend works well for me and my family. We’re having a get together with friends and family so we thought this was the perfect time to announce my decision.”

Brown’s listed measurements are 6-feet, 180 pounds. He is rated at four stars. He is the No. 6 California recruit, No. 7 cornerback, and the No. 61 prospect nationally for the Class of 2024 on the 247Sports composite.

The things that stand out the most about Brown at Mater Dei are his awareness and instincts. He does an excellent job of reading the offense and getting himself in position to make plays.

Brown is instinctive in his route diagnosis, aware of what the offense is trying to do, and he reacts quickly. With his instincts getting him in position, the Monarch shows good ball skills to break up passes or pick them off. He is very calm and comfortable with the ball in the air. He displays a knack for timing his contact well to avoid penalties while breaking up passes.

During his college career I expect Brown to produce some good interception totals. He has good hands to snatch the ball out of the air, and he plays the ball extremely well.
