USC had a deep running back room in 2023. Right now, the Trojans do not have much depth at the position heading into 2024 and the Big Ten.
You know by now that running back MarShawn Lloyd officially declared for the 2024 NFL draft, a move he announced on his Instagram and other social media pages on Sunday evening.
“To my Gamecocks family, thank you for your continuous love and support,” Lloyd wrote on Instagram. “To my teammates and USC family, thank you for welcoming me with open arms. The love that I have been shown in such a short period of time has made me feel at home and will be forever cherished.
“It has always been my dream since I was a little kid to be able to play in the NFL and I am blessed to be able to have that opportunity.”
Lloyd spent three seasons with South Carolina before he transferred to USC in the 2023 season.
The 5-foot-9, 210-pound tailback finished the regular season fifth among Pac-12 runners with 74.6 yards per game on the ground. In 11 appearances, he ran for 820 yards and nine touchdowns on 116 carries.
It is unclear whether Lloyd will play in the Trojans’ upcoming Holiday Bowl matchup against the Louisville Cardinals.
His departure reduced the amount of depth in the running back room. Darwin Barlow also left USC as well. These moves leave the Trojans with three scholarship running backs heading into the 2024 season — sophomore Quinten Joyner, redshirt freshman A’Marion Peterson, and incoming freshman Bryan Jackson. The Trojans, short on depth right now, will be active in the transfer portal to supplement and augment the room ahead of next season.
