USC offers 4-star defensive back Martels Carter Jr.

USC is trying to make a big impression on a dynamic prospect from Tennessee.

Lincoln Riley and the USC football program have been active recruiting in the 2025 class of late, with another top recruit announcing an offer from the Trojans.

Martels Carter Jr., a 6-foot-1, 180-pound junior, has more than 30 scholarship offers including USC, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas A&M, as well as Clemson, Colorado, Florida State and Michigan, among other Power Five programs.

Rated as high as the No. 153 overall prospect nationally and sixth in Tennessee as a football recruit, he was the second-fastest qualifier in the 100-meter dash at the state track and field meet this past spring (10.95 seconds). He helped his school, Brainerd High School in Chattanooga (Tenn.), to excel in track and field. Brainerd’s 4×100 relay team qualified for the state championship meet.

On the football field last season, Carter had 47 tackles, three interceptions — returning two for touchdowns — seven pass breakups, and four forced fumbles. He compiled 1,806 yards of total offense and 21 touchdowns at quarterback.
