USC makes top 4 for Miami Hurricane transfer John Campbell Jr

Vorhees and Neilon are off to the pros. USC needs to fill in the gaps created by their departures. This is one possible target in the portal.

USC could be in the market for an offensive tackle.

John Campbell Jr., a three-star recruit from Dr. Phillips High School (Orlando), is in the transfer portal.

Campbell originally chose Miami over offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State and UCF coming out of high school. Campbell was listed as the 19th-best offensive lineman in the country and No. 52 overall prospect in Florida.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound offensive tackle is now a fifth-year redshirt junior looking for a new home in 2023. His entry into the transfer portal is part of a significant offensive line reshuffle under Mario Cristobal in Miami. Campbell is leaving the Hurricanes. USC is certainly interested in the offensive lineman.

The former ACC lineman will decide among FSU, Florida, USC and Tennessee. With the start of the spring semester just around the corner for all four schools, Campbell’s decision is expected to come sooner rather than later.

USC is losing three starters with tons of experience next season. Protecting Caleb Williams is a must for the Trojans to potentially win the Pac-12 and more in 2023; it starts up front in the trenches.

Sixth-year seniors Brett Neilon, Andrew Vorhees and Bobby Haskins will all be NFL draft picks, so Campbell’s experience — starting 12 games and being intent on playing college ball in 2023 — will be a big get for the Trojans this offseason, if they can bring him in.
