Wait a minute, wait a minute. It’s blasphemy, sacrilege, to entertain the idea that USC football fans are simply going to turn away from their beloved team on a November Saturday. Ordinarily, yes, it would be ridiculous — maybe even offensive — to suggest as much. However, there are always unique exceptions in life, right? If you have a wedding — yours or your best friend’s — you’re going to attend that event instead of watching your football team. You might check the score on your phone when you have five free minutes, but you’re going to the wedding. Well, there’s something similar for Los Angeles sports fans, at least if one scenario emerges for the USC-Washington game on Nov. 2.
The USC-Washington game on Nov. 2 will air at 4:30 p.m. Pacific time on Big Ten Network. USC football fans obviously hope that the hometown Los Angeles Dodgers will win the 2024 World Series against the New York Yankees. What Trojan fans are fervently hoping for: that the Dodgers can get this thing done in six games. Game 6 is on Friday, Nov. 1. Guess when Game 7 is? Yes. That’s right.
Game 7 of the World Series is Saturday, Nov. 2, at 5:08 p.m. Pacific time.
If USC was 7-0 or 6-1, there’s no way Trojan fans would turn away from the Men of Troy, but USC is 3-4 and going nowhere this season. Game 7 of a Dodger-Yankee World Series in Dodger Stadium? That’s probably one of the very, very few events which would pull a USC football fan away from the gridiron, since both games will unfold at the same time. Obviously, some fans can channel flip and toggle between the two games, but it’s reasonable to say that most of the city of Los Angeles’s attention will be focused on the Dodgers if there is a Game 7 on Nov. 2.
We will see if the Dodgers can handle the Yankees in six and avoid this complication for a lot of Angelenos.
