USC faces Stanford on Saturday in momentum-building opportunity

The USC Trojans face Stanford on Saturday night. The Cardinal just beat Arizona a few days ago. Watch out.

The USC Trojans needed to forget about last week. If that was an issue coming into this week, it was wiped away after Thursday night’s thrashing of Cal.

The Trojans used an all-around effort and 52 combined points from Drew Peterson and Boogie Ellis to blow out the Golden Bears and move into third in the Pac-12 standings.

Next up for the Trojans is another momentum-builder with a game against the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday night at the Galen Center.

This will be the first and only regular-season meeting against Stanford this season. While the Cardinal don’t have an impressive record, the Trojans need to be wary.

They got swept by Stanford last season.

Stanford lost to UCLA by nine on Thursday, but they just upset Arizona last Saturday. In the upset against the Wildcats, all five starters finished in double figures, and Michael O’Connell led the way with 22 points.

On the other hand, Stanford is just 1-3 in its last four games.

The Trojans also lost to Oregon State last Saturday, so anything can happen on any day, especially in the Pac-12.

It’s simple: If USC loses to Stanford on Saturday, their bubble position will take a massive hit. If they win, they flip to the right side of the bubble and feel good entering next week.
