USC depth at wide receiver should play into Tahj Washington’s hands

USC’s receivers will flourish for the simple reason that defenses can’t overextend to cover any individual. Others will thrive.

If you’re a defensive coordinator facing the USC offense this season, we need to tell you a few things.

First: Good luck. Second: Say your prayers. Third: Be ready to accept imperfection.

Fourth: You might want to try zone looks against the USC pass offense.

It is going to be so hard to account for USC’s receivers in man-to-man situations. If defenses want to double one receiver, such as Dorian Singer, it will guarantee that the other receivers will operate against single coverage. One of those receivers is Tahj Washington, whom Don Smalley of Ducks Wire wrote about:

“Why You Should Know Him:Washington is USC’s version of De’Anthony Thomas. He can rush, receive and be a dangerous return specialist. At 5-foot-10 and just 175 pounds, Washington can seemingly be everywhere all at once. Given the extra talent the Trojans have acquired at the receiver position, defenses won’t be able to double-cover him as often. Washington against man-to-man formations usually don’t turn out well for the opponent.”
