Some questions, in sports and in life, are difficult to answer. Other questions contain answers which are very obvious.
At the 2023 USC football spring game, one question doesn’t involve a particularly complicated answer.
Which position group for the Trojans needs the most help? Phrased differently, which position group has the most question marks and is comparatively less developed than the others on the roster?
There should not be much of any debate about this. It’s the defensive line. USC so badly needs more reinforcements up front, not just because Tuli Tuipulotu has left, but also because opposing teams — if able to run the ball up the middle — are in a position to keep the ball away from Caleb Williams and the offense. If USC can address weaknesses along the defensive front, that would go a very long way toward improving the team and raising its odds of making the College Football Playoff.
