USC baseball gets huge win over UCLA to stop Pac-12 losing skid

The Trojans had to stop the bleeding, and they did, setting up a rubber match on Sunday afternoon in L.A.

The USC Trojans were in trouble. They needed to snap a Pac-12 baseball losing streak which included a sweep loss to Oregon State and then a Friday night loss to the UCLA Bruins in the first game of this three-game weekend series at Dedeaux Field.

They answered the call on Saturday in the second game of this series. USC scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth and got great pitching from starter Caden Aoki in a 5-1 win over the No. 22 Bruins.

Aoki pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed only  one run, giving USC the stability and length it needed from its pitching staff in this game. Aoki was able to hold the Bruins at bay and keep the Trojans in the game until their sixth-inning explosion.

Johnny Olmstead homered and drove in two runs to pace the USC offense.

Game 3 of this series is Sunday at 4 p.m. at Dedeaux Field.
