USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll shows stiff competition for Washington in Big Ten

The Washington Huskies weren’t among the

The Big Ten is going to present plenty of challenges for coach Danny Sprinkle and the Washington Huskies. In his first year at the helm, not only is Sprinkle fielding an all-new team, but that team is moving into an all-new conference.

On Wednesday morning, the first installment of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll was released and showed just how tough that new conference is going to be.

Four members of the Big Ten found themselves ranked inside the top 25: No. 13 Purdue, No. 18 Indiana, No. 22 UCLA, and No. 24 Illinois. Six others, Rutgers, Michigan State, Ohio State, Maryland, Oregon, and Wisconsin, were placed in the others receiving votes category and will be on the outside looking in.

It isn’t surprising that even with a talented new roster headlined by Blue Ribbon Yearbook All-American Great Osobor, the Huskies are on the outside looking in. But the poll shows the immense challenge Sprinkle has in front of him, and after going 28-7 in his one season at Utah State, he appears to be more than up to the task at hand.
