Just one day after the AP Top 25 poll slid the Iowa Hawkeyes out of the top five to No. 6 in the nation, other outlets have them holding a spot in the top five despite the loss to Ohio State.
The USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll has the Hawkeyes at No. 5 in the country in this week’s poll. This poll is telling as it comes from coaches across the country and they believe the Hawkeyes are still one of the top five teams in the country.
Sitting at 18-2 overall with a Big Ten conference record of 7-1, which still has the Hawkeyes in first place in the conference, Iowa is just fine. They have a chance to redeem their loss to Ohio State when they host the Buckeyes later this year and still have control of their own conference destiny.
Surrounding the Hawkeyes in these rankings are the usual suspects that have clustered together without much separation in records as they are all vying to be a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Ahead of Iowa at No. 2 in Kansas State, a team they are 1-1 against. Colorado is No. 3, UCLA is No. 4, Stanford is tied with Iowa at No. 5, North Carolina State is No. 7, UConn is down at No. 8, LSU is No. 9, and USC rounds it out at No. 10 in the nation.
The Hawkeyes are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 1:00 p.m. CT when they host the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
