USA TODAY NFL Power Rankings: Jets inch closer to rock bottom after Patriots loss

Where do the Jets stand in USA TODAY’s NFL Power Rankings with Week 7 in the books?

The Jets experienced peak embarrassment against the Patriots in Week 7, as New England’s mediocre offense scored 54 points in New York’s worst defeat since last season’s 37-point loss to the Seahawks.

New York nearly hit rock bottom in the USA TODAY NFL Power Rankings after its lifeless performance over the weekend. The Jets dropped four spots from 27th to 31st and rank only ahead of the Texans, who were manhandled by the Cardinals. Gang Green would likely be last in the rankings if it did not defeat the AFC South-leading Titans in Week 4, as Houston lost to the Patriots by just three points earlier this season.

The Jets, meanwhile, lost their two matchups with the Patriots by an average of 20 points.

It will be tough for New York to get back on track when the Bengals come to MetLife Stadium on Sunday afternoon — especially without the injured Zach Wilson. Cincinnati checks in at eighth in the rankings after making a statement on the road against the Ravens and boasts a dangerous offense led by second-year quarterback Joe Burrow.

The Bills maintained their spot atop the AFC East pecking order despite a bye week, checking in at seventh in the rankings. The Patriots moved up two spots from 23rd to 21st, while the Dolphins continued their freefall with a last-second loss to the Falcons and remain 29th.

The Cardinals, Rams, Buccaneers, Cowboys and Packers round out the top five. Arizona and Green Bay meet in a top-five matchup on Thursday night.
