Urban Meyer’s tenure with the Jacksonville Jaguars hasn’t been a long one but there have already been a number of embarrassing moves by the coach that have made lots of people wonder if the great college coach will ever become a decent NFL coach.
Well, tonight the guy with the weird coffee table gets to show the world what he and his team look like four weeks into the season when the Jaguars travel to Cincinnati to play the Bengals on “TNF.”
And you know what? Things could get really ugly for Meyer tonight if Joe Burrow and the 2-1 Bengals hand the 0-3 Jaguars another loss to the start the season.
The Jags thus far have been able to go winless without many people noticing. Their games have been buried on Sundays and if it wasn’t for that lame tweet about Meyer telling Jags fans after Week 2 to go to sleep knowing his staff would be working really hard to turn this thing around then nobody outside of Jacksonville would even know what the Jags were up to.
That changes tonight when this game kicks off because this is the only game of the night and it’s on national TV and NFL fans will be tuning in to see if Meyer and Co. have come close to figuring anything out. If things get out of hand and the Jags fall behind early, social media is going to have a field day with Meyer and his ability to coach at this level and if he should run back to the college game where there is one big job opening.
There will be nowhere for Meyer and the Jags to hide tonight. I think most games are must-win games for any 0-3 team in the NFL and this one is no different. A poor showing by the Jags will make them the laughingstock of the league again. A win, especially on the road against a team that has wins over the Vikings and Steelers, will help give them a little bit of respect from fans and will let the team finally get a bit of momentum.
But imagine if the Jags get blown out tonight? My goodness will things get crazy on Twitter if that happens.
On paper this doesn’t seem like the greatest Thursday night game that we’re ever going to see. But there is a lot on the line for Urban and the Jags and that makes it worth watching.
So tune in and see the circus that is Urban Meyer and the Jags. Chances are it’s going to be a mess and who doesn’t like a good laugh, especially late in the week?
