When athletic director Rick George decided to hire Deion Sanders as Colorado’s new head football coach, things moved quickly. Coach Prime had players in mind that he wanted to bring over, most notably Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter from Jackson State.
He also had coaches he had his eyes set on, including Alabama assistant Charles Kelly and former Kent State head coach Sean Lewis.
Former Ohio State, Utah, Florida and Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer recently stopped by a Colorado fall camp practice and was impressed with how the Buffs look so far. He then hopped on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” and discussed the Buffs, making sure to mention the coaching staff.
“He’s (Deion Sanders) hired really good coaches. I went to the meetings and I watched the practice. They have I believe 70 new players,” Meyer said. “So I call this thing that grand experiment and I’m telling you, Colin, that was not what I expected. I didn’t know what to expect, but I saw a very good team. I saw talented players, his son’s an excellent quarterback.”
Meyer also hit two-way star Travis Huter with an interesting comparison: “I looked at Prime and I said, ‘Man, I’ve had one of those called Percy Harvin.’ I just pushed him to the side, ‘You don’t need to practice him much longer.’ He’s that good.”
Colorado’s coaching staff is loaded from top to bottom, and the roster is full of talented transfer players just waiting for an opportunity to excel in the new situation.
If Meyer is right, the Buffs could be in for a big season.
