Updating the AFC playoff picture after Week 10

The Browns are one of 6 teams with 6 wins

Week 10 saw windy conditions impact several games across the AFC landscape. Those winds blew quite a bit of chaos into the AFC playoff picture.

The Cleveland Browns improved to 6-3 with a 10-7 win over the Texans. Cleveland is one of six AFC teams with a matching 6-3 record.

The top two seeds through Week 10 are easy enough. Pittsburgh is 9-0 and in command of the AFC North, while the Chiefs are 8-1 and lording over the AFC West. After that? It’s a cluster of slide rules, tiebreakers and possible paths to the postseason.

Buffalo leads the AFC East at 7-3, a half-game up on the 6-3 Dolphins. Miami has won five in a row and the Dolphins’ upcoming schedule features three games against teams with a combined six wins coming up. Right now, Miami is the No. 6 seed.

The top Wild Card team through Week 10 is the Las Vegas Raiders, who improved to 6-3 by slamming the Broncos. The Raiders hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Browns if it comes to that, but with so many teams with the same record, it’s a moot point right now.

Baltimore’s loss on Sunday Night Football dropped the Ravens to 6-3. They also hold the tiebreaker on the Browns. They’re the No. 7 seed but precariously so with all their injuries.

The Browns are next up, ahead of the Tennessee Titans. Indianapolis seized control of the AFC South by beating the Titans on Thursday night, leaving both teams 6-3 (like Cleveland). Tennessee has lost three of four since opening 5-0 and they fall behind the Browns to the bottom of the tiebreak order.

The good news is that there is a two-game gap between the cluster of 6-3 teams and the next tier. New England is 4-5 after beating Baltimore and Denver is 3-6. The other five teams have a combined seven wins.
