Headlined by a pair of Top 25 matchups, Week 8 of the 2024 SEC football season was arguably the biggest in the conference so far this year.
The SEC’s headline game came in Austin when the Texas and Georgia faced off, while another ranked-vs.-ranked matchup happened in Knoxville where Alabama traveled to Tennessee. Both of those games likely did not go as many across college football might’ve thought as well, with both results impacting the SEC conference standings coming out of Week 8.
Here are the latest SEC conference standings after Week 8 of the 2024 season:
SEC Football Standings after Week 8
1. Texas A&M (4-0)
2. LSU (3-0)
3. Georgia (4-1)
4. Tennessee (3-1)
T-5. Missouri, Texas, Vanderbilt (2-1)
T-8. Alabama, Arkansas, Florida (2-2)
11. South Carolina (2-3)
12. Ole Miss (1-2)
13. Oklahoma (1-3)
14. Kentucky (1-4)
T-15. Auburn, Mississippi State (0-4)
Looking at Alabama in particular, the loss to Tennessee certainly did not help their SEC Championship Game aspirations, as the Crimson Tide are now one-of-three teams sitting with two conference losses. In order to make it to Atlanta, Alabama will need to win out, as well as receive some help from other teams.
At the moment, there are also two SEC teams who remain undefeated in conference play in Texas A&M and LSU. However, the likes of Georgia and Texas are lurking closely behind as we now look ahead to Week 9.
