UNLV looks to remain undefeated in league play

UNLV (7-8, 2-0 MW) faces the Air Force Falcons (7-7, 1-1 MW) at 10 pm EST on Saturday at the Thomas & Mack Center on ESPNU.

Following an upset victory over defending conference champions Utah State (70-53) UNLV is now undefeated in conference play. 

The Rebels are riding a couple of good streaks heading into their matchup against Air Force. UNLV has won their past eight home games against Air Force, another streak that coach T.J. Otzelberger’s squad has going for them is a three-game winning streak. 

UNLV has been getting to the hoop during this three-game winning stretch and continuing to bang inside will bode well for the Rebels. During this current winning streak, UNLV is averaging 41 points per game on points scored in the paint.

The team’s success inside is in part due to their outstanding rebounding as a team UNLV is ranked inside the top 10 in the nation in offensive rebounding rate and total offensive rebounds. 

Coach Otzelberger has been tough on his players demanding more effort out of all his players. To his credit the players have responded getting to diving after the ball and making all around hustle plays. The more aggressive demeanor is a better look for the Runnin Rebels. 

For Air Force this is their first conference game of the new year. The Falcons are one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the Mountain West. Coach Dave Pilipovich’s team is shooting 41.6 percent from three that’s 4th in the nation. 

UNLV is favored over Air Force in this game. For the Rebels utilizing their size inside will be key for the Falcons knocking down outside shots will present their best chance to win.
