University of Michigan soccer staffer arrested by FBI in child pornography case

This is terrible.

The University of Michigan has been in the news for the wrong reasons over the course of the past year, but when it’s come to most of the bad press, it’s been athletics-related.

But this instance is a different animal entirely.

Though the football program has been under scrutiny for ‘burgergate’ and the Connor Stalions saga, this time, it’s the women’s soccer program that’s taking a hit. The Detroit News’ Robert Snell is reporting that the FBI has arrested a Michigan Athletics official for having solicited at least one high school student and more. (subscription required)

FBI agents have arrested a University of Michigan athletics official on child pornography charges after investigators say he solicited at least one high school student for sex and photographed underage athletes at sporting events.

The allegations are contained in a federal criminal case filed Thursday against Howell resident Jacob Kromberg, 26, the director of operations/sports scientist for the University of Michigan’s women’s soccer team who also is listed as a boys junior varsity soccer head coach at Ann Arbor Pioneer High School. The criminal filing describes unsolicited propositions, photos of partially undressed student athletes and amateur sleuthing that led to Kromberg’s arrest.

Per the report, Kromberg will appear in federal court in Bay City on Thursday.
