UNC basketball forward [autotag]Armando Bacot[/autotag] returned for his senior season and not only put the Tar Heels as a national title contender, but also put him in a position to be an All-American and get his jersey hung in the rafters by years end.
After landing on a few All-American teams over the summer, the first significant one was released on Monday. Bacot was named to the Preseason All-American Team by Blue Ribbon College Yearbook.
It was the 42nd edition of the yearly preseason award and the team also included Indiana forward Trayce Jackson-Davis, Gonzaga forward Drew Timme, Kentucky forward Oscar Tshiebwe, and Houston guard Marcus Sasser.
Bacot averaged 16.3 points and 13.1 rebounds per game last season for UNC and was named First Team All-ACC. He finished runner-up in the conference’s Player of the Year award voting behind Alondes Williams of Wake Forest.
He became the first player in NCAA Tournament history with six double-doubles in one NCAA Tournament as he averaged 15.3 points and 16.5 rebounds en route to a National Championship runner-up appearance.
He also set the ACC record for double-doubles in a single season (31) and tied the NCAA record that David Robinson set in 1985-86.
